How Crazy Weather is Linked to Global Warming

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/mar/10/crazy-weathers-link-to-global-warming/#

Southern California has recently been experiencing sudden temperature changes and storms, as is the rest of the United States. This article is diving deeper on this crazy weather problem and how it's linked to global warming. The United Nations Intergovernmental panels on climate change have been researching for many years the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere by human activity, mainly from consuming carbon-based fuels. As the atmosphere warms, even slightly, it absorbs more moisture. This is accelerated by warming of the oceans and the resulting increase in evaporation. This doesn’t necessarily lead to more storms, but it does result in storms being more severe, with stronger winds and greater precipitation. In the long run, as the climate continues to warm, the weird weather events will more and more be of the warm mixture such as monsoons and hurricanes, mainly in the middle latitudes, where the ocean and atmosphere are warmer. Find out what we've been experiencing in the recent months when you read this interesting and sadly true article.

9,000-year-old Great Barrier Reef : Damage from Global Warming?

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2044585,00.html?xid=rss-mostpopular
The 1,430-mile Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest protected reef system. It generates some $6 billion in revenue for Australia annually and provides employment to more than 50,000 people. This reef is home to more than 11,000 species and draws nearly 2 million tourists every year. What attracts them? The pictures shown above. As you can see, this reef located off of Australia’s coast is a pretty big deal, also one of the most fragile ecosystems. However, this reef is being affected greatly by global warming. As Krista Maahr takes a dive into the reefs, she soon realizes the lack of beauty and simple essence of the reefs. What is going on, she wonders. "Besides the extreme rain that sparked the floods, rising ocean temperatures, changes to the ocean's chemistry and the global trade in natural resources — all symptoms of our fossil-fuel economy — are waging a multifront war on the marine environment." Krista exclaims. Oceans soak up about half of the carbon dioxide humans produce, and while that helps lessen the effect of fossil-fuel emissions on the atmosphere, it also causes a reaction that makes seawater more acidic. Read this article to find out how this is affecting coral reefs and the future of marine ecosystems.

Link between Eye Health and Global Warming?

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/Study-on-connection-between-global-warming-and-eye-health/articleshow/7587534.cms
After researching "news for global warming," a very interesting article came up, which I would like to share with you!India Institute of Medical Sciences will discover the impact of ultraviolet radiation and global warming. How? Starting in March, trained staff in Delhi(which is located in India) and go door to door randomly fill out a questionnaire to find out how much time people spend in the sun, whether they wear any eye protection, whether they have any eye problem and for how long have they been suffering from it. Also, they will be scanned for any eye diseases and that will be recorded. In this article, Tandon says: "ultraviolet B radiation is known to play a major role in diseases of the conjunctiva and cornea, dry eye, pterygium, allergic diseases, corneal degenerative changes, cataract and retinal complications." Read on to find out more on this interesting topic!

Global warming effecting animals

^^^
As we all think, global warming not only effects polar regions and animals such as polar bears, but tropical climate and animals as well.
http://climatechangearticles.blogspot.com/2009/05/how-does-global-warming-affect-animals.html
As the global warming impact becomes stronger and stronger, animals find it more and more difficult to adapt. Changed weather conditions and more frequent extreme weather events will cause many animals to go extinct. Sadly polar bears are not the only animals affected with global warming. Global warming isn't only affecting polar regions but the whole planet. Yes, Arctic is really rapidly melting making polar bears survival very questionable, but thousands of other animal species are struggling as well. Many tropical animal species are also struggling to survive as well. This being because the temperature rise of just a degree or two simply because these species are familiar to live in environment within a very small temperature range, and any temperature increase above this range is likely to cause their extinction as they will have not enough time to adapt.

How does Global Warming affect us?

   http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4611450_global-warming-affect-us.html
There are various ways in which global warming effects us indirectly as humans. For example, violent storms are a big cause of global warming. Although the overall number of tropical storms have not increased, there are more storms strong enough to be called hurricanes. Another obvious effect is climate change, which will change the worldwide weather patterns including droughts and on the opposite spectrum, floods. The increased warm weather will cause polar ice caps to melt more quickly (which as we ALL know, polar ice caps hold the greatest amount of freshwater!)Many rivers are powered by mountain glaciers which grow in the winter and thaw in the summer, producing seasonal flows. As these glaciers melt, these rivers could decrease or even dry up. The combination of violent storms, rapid changes in local climates, disruption of the water cycle and extinction of plants and animals will probably cause local food shortages and disruption of infrastructure in some areas. The panic and anxiety over global warming will damage the world economy, as will the population squeeze when people in coastal areas are forced to move inland by rising water levels.
