What is Global Warming?

^^^
As you can see, the annual average and the five year average has greatly increased in global temperatures.
Global Warming is the increase of Earth's average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. The most significant greenhouse gas is water vapor, but it is not cause directly by humans. However, even the slightest increase in carbon dioxide can cause a significant amount in temperature increase. Why is that we ask? Well because neither oxygen or nitrogen are greenhouse gases. Both water and CO2, for example, have these "internal vibrational modes", and these vibrational modes can absorb and reradiate infrared radiation, which causes the greenhouse effect.  Second, CO2 remains in the atmosphere for a very long time.(Hundreds of years.)

  1. This post was easy to read and the chart was a nice visual. I think in your next post, I would like to hear more about how global warming effects my life and what I can do to help!

  2. Yes, I liked the chart visual as well. I think it's interesting how the slightest increase of certain gasses can have such a huge effect on temperatures etc.
